The second and very
important reason Nigerians should reelect President Goodluck Jonathan is the
herculean task of unbundling Nigeria’s corruption ridden, moribund and unwieldy
power generation and distribution system represented by the Power Holding
Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

Former President Olusegun
Obasanjo spent Bola Ige, US$16 Billion (Sixteen Billion U.S. Dollars) during
his first four of eight-year tenure without being able to procure a candle to
show for his efforts in the power sector.
President Jonathan, like the
proverbial David and Goliath story, has in his usual lack of sophistry,
successfully unbundled the notorious PHCN and even as we do not have all the
power we need to day, we are on our way to having it. It would be a matter of time and from a
layman’s estimation, in a space of two years, like the GSM case study, we would
have power supply security in Nigeria.
We need President Jonathan to deepen the stride towards power supply
security in Nigeria.
Lack of power supply security
is the reason Nigerians are suffering.
Nigerians can go about their lives and create and enjoy wealth, health,
security and peace if there is power security and roads. We can do the rest.
We may not today understand
what huge risk and what monumental achievement un-bundling the power system of
Nigeria is in real terms. But when the
dividend starts coming in the next few years, like he himself has predicted, we
would all praise Goodluck Jonathan, whether dead or alive for what he has done.
The Nigerian corruption
cabal and cartel that are behind the failure of the power projects and systems
in Nigeria are so powerful that had President Jonathan any sophistry – the sort
of smartness some skewed up Nigerians are looking for; he would not have been
able to deal with them. If he realized
the evil capacity this cabal have to destroy anybody standing on their way and
still did what he did by unbundling the PHCN, then he is a courageous man and a
hero. If he did not know what this
people are capable of doing and still did what he did, then he is the type of
man we need.
This power sector cabals and
cartel of generator importers and corrupt officials of PHCN and kingmakers have
held this country hostage since independence until Jonathan, the friend to
David arrived the scene.
Those comparing President
Jonathan and other previous rulers of Nigeria are missing the point when all
they do is to measure President Jonathan’s effectiveness against the backdrop
of the ability to destroy people which were very easy for our former military
and civilian rulers before him.

Nigerians should remember
that a different administration than Jonathan administration would in the
Nigerian system tear down the great achievement of un-bundling PHCN and take us
back to the dark days. Another good
critical we need to reelect President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.
To, therefore, protect the
achievements made in the power sector and rescue this country from lack of efficient and
effective power supply, we need to keep Jonathan in power for another four
years beginning from 2015 so that we can hope to have power.
