Any follower of Nigerian
media – print, electronic and online – would see that the All Progressive
Congress (APC) has been busy pushing their single item agenda – stop “President
Jonathan from contesting the 2015”. The APC does not seem to be ready for a
contest with Jonathan which is what democracy is all about.
President Jonathan’s internal
opponents within his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also have one single agenda
– destroy Jonathan. In campaigning
against Jonathan’s feared reelection, they have thrown decorum to the
winds. They make no points of how they
can be better than President Goodluck Jonathan.
They sponsor the press – print and electronic – to heap insult on the
person and office of the President.
They make no effort to hide
the fact that they are not prepared to contest any primaries with
Jonathan. All they want is to wake up
one on morning to hear that he is dead.
They speak about corruption
that has been there from before independence as if the word meant the same
thing as Goodluck Jonathan. Even people
like Aminu Tambuwal whose presidential ambition is not hidden who presided over
the most corrupt House of Representative ever in Nigeria also came out to
accuse President Jonathan of not fighting corruption enough. Mr. Tambuwal is speaker when two committee
Chairmen collected bribes in dollars.
It is rather absurd that all
that the Jonathan’s opponents do is expend a lot of energy and time and money
to vilify person and office of President Goodluck Jonathan. They make no effort to sell any other agenda
to the beleaguered Nigerian people who have been misruled and exploited for one
hundred years now.
Everybody who meets the
constitutional requirements of Nigeria should seek for nomination and election
as a Nigerian citizen. Why the APC and other opposition elements are
afraid to contest against Jonathan as provided for in the Nigerian constitution
is what I find difficult to understand. They
are going for the President’s jugular. They
are not concerned with what the citizenry needs.
It is insulting to Nigerians
that the only thing the opposition can offer is a denigration of the person and
office of the president in a nation where development has been stunted for more
than five decades now since political
independence in 1960.
Why can’t the opposition
wait President Jonathan at the polls? Or
do they already know that they cannot beat Jonathan in a democratic convention
and presidential election? If that is their
fear, how is it supposed to be our problem?
We need the office of the President to retain its honour for the purpose
of sanity and order in our land. There is
need to respect the person of the President of any nation at least for the
period of his or her tenure for the purpose of order.
By the time the opposition
succeed in demystify the person and office of the president, it would be the
woe of not only the present occupier of that office but also the woe of future
presidents.
The craze by the APC to shop
for every weakling in the PDP who is willing to expose their ideological
barenness is another evidence that the APC is not the answer to Nigeria’s
problem. If President Jonathan is
unacceptable, how come that from 160 million Nigerians, the APC could not find
members and sympathizers to defeat him in an election. They have to shop for PDP members many of whom
are already highly suspected by Nigerians.
Shopping from PDP suggests
that APC is made up of rogues who have shameful past and are totally
unacceptable to and untrusted by Nigerians. It means that without PDP, the APC
is non-existent. Every other member of
PDP is being paid to decamp to APC. PDP
people who have failed their constituencies and have no hope of re-nomination
are being bought by APC.
The same PDP
that produced President Jonathan who has been highly vilified by the APC.
Nigerians should look
clearly. Nigerians should suspect the
APC. The APC only agenda is "STOP
PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN FROM 2015" and nothing more. Once they can stop him, they have succeeded
and would offer the ordinary Nigerian absolutely nothing.
Nigerians, check it well.
